Antibiotics

Reviewed by: Mt Martha Village Clinic

Antibiotics are extremely valuable and save lives but they must be only used when necessary. This is due to the increasing problem of bacterial resistance to antibiotics.

We are fortunate that our Mt Martha community is very aware and well educated on this situation and we have no difficulty asking patients with viral infections (viruses do not respond to antibiotics) to let the immune system do it’s job and avoid unnecessary antibiotics. This is a link to an article which describes a program which encourages the taking of a “pledge” to help us all remember to treat antibiotic use with great care.
